KG Curriculum

Teaching, Learning and Assessment in the Kindergarten and how the Curriculum will be transacted

Transaction of the curriculum

  • Learning centers will be set up in each classroom (literacy, math, role play, science, art, reading corner and building center)
  • Provision of a safe, secure, happy and motivational environment
  • Communication through play where children share their ideas and thought processes with others
  • Students will be given the freedom to play, learn and make their own decisions
  • Teacher will act as a facilitator sensitive to each childʼs stage of development and self confidence
  • Children will learn through self discovery
  • Children will learn through the senses of touch, smell, taste, sight and sound
  • No controlled environment/childrenʼs creativity will not be stifled but enhanced Inclusion of all students in the learning process
  • Parental involvement in the learning process
  • The chosen curriculum will help develop a childʼs fine motor skills, gross motor skills. It will also make them self reliant and aware about themselves. It will help them develop and maintain social relationships and also help them understand their surroundings

The Kindergarten curriculum is based on the guidelines of the Ontario Curriculum to learning.

Following are a few of the different teaching strategies, learning approaches and assessment approaches that will be followed :

  • Numeracy – Number sense & numeration, Measurement, Geometry & Spatial sense, Patterning, Data Management
  • Knowledge of the world around us – Exploration & Experimentation, Use of Technology
  • Health & Physical development & Activity
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Self Awareness & Self Reliance, Social Relationships, Awareness of the surroundings
  • Art – Visual Art, Dance, Drama & Music
